OFFICE FOR RESEARCH AND SPONSORED PROGRAMS
Proposals to conduct research involving the use of live non-human vertebrates, post birth or hatching (on campus or in field studies), should be submitted to the University鈥檚听Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee听(IACUC), headed by听Dr. Nicholas Santangelo. Dr. Santangelo can be reached at 516-463-7394. In its review of protocols involving animals, the University鈥檚 IACUC will evaluate the number of animals to be used, the selection of species, and the animals鈥 possible exposure to discomfort and pain. Animal use review and approval is generally governed by regulations outlined in the NIH publication听Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.听
Separate from the Animal Care and Use Committee is the animal care facility. For information regarding the day-to-day operations of this facility, or special needs you may have in your research, please contact听Dr. Christopher B. Boyko听at 516-463-5530.听
Important Notice: IACUC approval is necessary for all projects involving vertebrate animals and is not limited to projects funded through external grants.
