When I was deciding where to go to college, I was unsure if Hofstra was the right choice. Even at orientation, I was worried that I was making the wrong choice – that I wouldn’t fit in, and that there weren’t enough opportunities here for me. After starting my classes here, Hofstra quickly won me over, and I have loved my time here so much.
The opportunities at Hofstra have allowed me to get out of my comfort zone, achieve my goals, and grow as a person. I went from being extremely shy and reserved to becoming president of the Student Government Association.
Everyone at Hofstra – from your classmates and faculty to the dining and custodial staff – is here to support your growth and be a helping hand. We’re a close-knit campus with huge opportunities. You can do research, land an internship, or hop on a train into Manhattan. You can do it all with the Hofstra family behind you.Â
No matter what you want to do and who you want to be, Hofstra can get you there. Hofstra is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.Â
Congratulations on your next step. Take the leap!Â

More ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Evelyn
Evelyn Quail’s experiences at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ have been defined by leadership, service, and academic passion.
A double major in Political Science and Public Policy and Public Service, Evelyn combined her interest in politics with a desire to create real-world impact. She values the balance between theory and practice in her coursework and the close-knit classroom environment that allowed her to build strong relationships with her professors and peers. Their mentorship and accessibility have played a key role in shaping her academic experience.
Evelyn has taken on a wide range of roles at Hofstra that reflect her commitment to leadership and civic engagement. A member of Rabinowitz Honors College, she served as a research assistant under the University’s presidential studies scholar Meena Bose, exploring the first Obama presidency and completing a senior thesis. She also worked as a peer tutor and became a fellow within Hofstra’s Center for Civic Engagement, contributing to projects that connect ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ with meaningful community work.
The experience closest to Evelyn’s heart, however, has been her involvement in the Student Government Association. As president during her senior year, she has advocated for her fellow ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ while growing her leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Off campus, Evelyn gained hands-on experience through internships at multiple levels of government and advocacy. She worked on local political campaigns, interned in the Office of New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, and spent a summer in Washington, D.C., with a health policy advocacy organization. These opportunities strengthened her analytical skills and solidified her goal of pursuing a career in public interest law.
Evelyn plans to attend law school after graduation and has already received multiple full-tuition scholarship offers. She hopes to continue her path in public service, using the skills and experiences she developed at Hofstra to make a meaningful impact.

Evelyn’s story isn’t unique at Hofstra. In fact, 90% of 2023-2024 undergraduate degree recipients from the Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs within Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences reported that they were employed or had started or were planning to start graduate school within one year of graduation. Results are based on data collected from the Alumni Outcomes survey, LinkedIn, National Student Clearinghouse, and Hofstra enrollment (92% knowledge rate).
