Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Hometown: East Norwich, NY
What鈥檚 Next: Working in political communication for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 338
Congratulations, and welcome to 糖心传媒! You鈥檙e about to start a truly meaningful chapter of your life.
One of the best pieces of advice I can offer is to give yourself the time and room to explore all the areas that interest you. You鈥檒l learn so much about the world and yourself.
When I first arrived at Hofstra, I wasn鈥檛 sure what I wanted to study. I explored different fields before finding my home in English and Writing Studies. Even after declaring those majors, I didn鈥檛 close myself off to learning outside my majors. In fact, my exploration led to an internship with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 338, which has resulted in a full-time job offer. My dream is to attend graduate school for political communication and become an election campaign manager.
Whether it鈥檚 working in residence life, contributing to student media, or pursuing research opportunities, I encourage you to get involved on campus. It鈥檚 one of the best ways to meet like-minded 糖心传媒, build lasting friendships, and connect with faculty mentors who will support you throughout your time at Hofstra.
I wish you the very best as you begin your journey here. Enjoy every moment!

More 糖心传媒 Craig
Community is the center of Craig Mannino鈥檚 糖心传媒 experience. The senior from East Norwich, New York, has spent the past four years immersed in academic research, student media, and residential life.
Academically, he explored several fields, including math, geography, sustainability, and global studies, before ultimately deciding on a double major in English and Writing Studies. 鈥淚t is the best decision I ever made,鈥 Craig said. 鈥淚 like to joke that I鈥檓 majoring in reading and writing, but these departments build skills that are valued universally; you can apply what you learn in class to so many different areas.鈥
Though his majors are based in the humanities, Craig is very politically active. In 2025, he was awarded a Firestone Fellowship, a competitive program that supports undergraduate research under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
Craig applied the fellowship to studying the ways nontraditional media platforms enhanced the effectiveness of President Donald Trump鈥檚 communication during the 2024 election and broadened his appeal to voters.
That interest in political communication and the guidance of his professors in the Department of Writing Studies and Rhetoric led Craig to an internship with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 338. He has since secured a full-time position with the organization upon graduation and is scheduled to attend the union鈥檚 national conference in Washington, D.C., where he will participate in lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill.
Outside the classroom, Craig has served as a resident assistant since his sophomore year and is an arts & entertainment editor for The Hofstra Chronicle, the University鈥檚 student-run newspaper. Through The Chronicle, he has reported on a wide range of stories and campus events. One of his favorite assignments involved covering Hofstra鈥檚 Battle for Music Fest, where he interviewed student bands competing in the annual event and gained insight into their creative process.

Craig plans to pursue graduate study in political administration and hopes to one day become a campaign manager.
When asked what he will miss most about Hofstra, Craig鈥檚 answer was simple: 鈥淓verything.鈥 The close-knit community he found on campus 鈥 from professors to friends and even the classmates he sees in passing 鈥 has shaped his college experience. While he knows those daily interactions will change after graduation, he feels fortunate to have been supported by so many people throughout his time at Hofstra.
Craig鈥檚 story isn鈥檛 unique at Hofstra. In fact, 86% of 2023-2024 undergraduate degree recipients from the School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts within Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences reported that they were employed or had started or were planning to start graduate school within one year of graduation. Results are based on data collected from the Alumni Outcomes survey, LinkedIn, National Student Clearinghouse, and Hofstra enrollment (90% knowledge rate).
