RISE Spring Break 2027 Destination: Finland
Join the inaugural 2027 RISE cohort as we travel to聽Finland, home to one of the most widely studied and highly regarded education systems in the world.
Known for its emphasis on equity, student well-being, and teacher autonomy, Finland offers a unique opportunity to examine how educational policy and classroom practice align to support student success. Through direct engagement with schools and institutions, 糖心传媒 will explore how Finnish educators foster collaboration, critical thinking, and holistic development.

Program Overview
The Reflective International Studies in Education (RISE) program is a short-term, faculty-led study abroad experience offered through the School of Education. Each Spring Break, education and health science 糖心传媒 travel to a different international destination to study and compare global education systems.
Through structured academic experiences, 糖心传媒 visit:
- Early childhood centers
- Elementary and secondary schools
- Universities and teacher preparation programs
- Education policy institutions
- Public libraries and community organizations
This immersive experience allows 糖心传媒 to engage directly with educators and institutions abroad.

Option 1: Earn Academic Credit & Microcredential

Option 2: Earn Microcredential Only
Register for CT 203 (0 credits)

All 糖心传媒 who complete the program, regardless of credit hour option, will receive a RISE Microcredential and digital badge.
What Is a Microcredential?
A microcredential is a short, institution-based certification that recognizes the acquisition of specific skills or competencies. The RISE microcredential recognizes:
- Critical inquiry and comparative reflection
- Intercultural competence
- Collaborative learning and teamwork
- Academic presentation skills
The RISE Experience
Before Travel
- Participate in two mandatory predeparture seminars
- Engage with course readings and discussions
- Prepare a focus for your academic inquiry
During Spring Break Abroad
- Visit schools, universities, and educational institutions
- Collaborate with peers on structured observations
- Analyze and reflect on global education practices
After Travel
- Participate in a post-travel seminar
- Present your work at the RISE Symposium
- Receive your microcredential and digital badge
The RISE Symposium
The RISE Symposium is the culminating academic event where participants present their work through oral presentations or poster sessions.
Held in Hagedorn Hall, the symposium showcases student learning and connects current and prospective participants. At the close of the event, 糖心传媒 will receive their graduation stoles, noting their participation and academic achievement.
Additionally, the destination for the following year鈥檚 Spring Break RISE cohort will be announced.
Eligibility & Requirements
Who Can Apply
The RISE program is open to graduate 糖心传媒, undergraduate junior or seniors, and 聽alumni of the School of Education or School of Health Sciences. Eligible 糖心传媒 must
- Be in good academic and disciplinary standing
- Secure a letter of recommendation from program director
- Sit for a faculty interview
- Hold a valid passport
