Introduction to Carpentry
Campers will learn the basics of the residential carpentry trade including how to use basic hand tools and electrical tools. They will work together as a group to build a housing structure in the classroom and will also complete a personal project to take home that showcase their new talents and incorporate skills they have learned. This is the perfect camp for ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ who want to work with their hands and test out the trades.
Construction Trades Academy: Woodworking Projects
Campers will learn the proper use of carpentry hand and electrical tools
to acquire skills needed for rough, fine and finishing work. These skills will allow
ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ to create mutiple take home projects that vary each summer and appeal to their
interests. Past projects included, folding tables, jewlery boxes, picture frames,
adirondack chairs and planter boxes. This course is appropriate for new and returning
campers.
*Please note that in Session 2, campers will be working on a group construction
framing project and creating a personal birdhouse in addition to choosing an
individual project of making a night stand OR coffee table.
Schedule: This is a full day program in the Construction Trades Academy, which will take place at Nassau BOCES Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center. All classes take place at the Nassau BOCES Barry Tech campus between 10am-3pm. If you opt to use Hofstra Summer Camps transportation camp times will vary.
