Leadership is directly related to the ability and willingness to serve others.  The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement sponsor regular trips and service projects!  Some of these leadership opportunities include the Midnight Run Committee, Alternative Spring Break, the Discovery Program, and more.  For more information about these opportunities refer to the Community Service Programs and Opportunities section of the OSLE website, stop by OSLE (260 Student Center) or send an email.

The Fraternity and Sorority Life community  is an intimate family of ���Ĵ�ý who exemplify true camaraderie, civic-mindedness, and leadership every day. Recruitment for a Greek-letter organization occurs each semester. Student Government Association Senators represent the entire student body, advocating for ���Ĵ�ý’ needs and serving as a liaison between the administration and ���Ĵ�ý. Senators are elected by the campus community to sit on the Student Government. Elections are conducted in April and October of each year, and positions are available until the Senate cap is filled. Each summer, a group of ���Ĵ�ý lead the first-years through their first big week at ���Ĵ�ý. Welcome Week Coordinators work through the summer to plan the events of Welcome Week, and the Leaders have the opportunity to mentor and guide first-year ���Ĵ�ý in their initial days on campus, connecting them to appropriate resources and easing their transition to college. The Discovery Program is a 5-day community service program for new ���Ĵ�ý prior to Welcome Week each year. Discovery Leaders are upper-class ���Ĵ�ý who are highly motivated to be “change agents” in their community. They want to lead by example and connect new ���Ĵ�ý to the local communities. Any ���Ĵ�ý who participated in the Discovery Program are eligible to apply to be a Discovery Leader in future years.

Every summer a highly-trained group of student leaders represent ���Ĵ�ý and serve as role models for the incoming first-year ���Ĵ�ý. The Orientation Leaders and Welcome Week Coordinators assist incoming ���Ĵ�ý with the transition to academic and co-curricular life on campus. During summer orientation, Orientation Leaders stay in the same residence halls as first-year ���Ĵ�ý and lead them to sessions giving their perspective of college life. The Welcome Week Coordinators continue this by planning and implement a five-day welcome program for all new first-years and transfer ���Ĵ�ý starting in the fall.

RA's work with the  Office of Residence Life who believe that living on-campus is an integral part of the college experience. The RA’s live and work on each floor of the residence halls, fostering healthy communication and promoting a sense of belonging within their residence hall and across campus. Each RA is a full-time student who has been selected for their leadership qualities and are able to help ���Ĵ�ý navigate the campus community and available resources. Admissions hires and trains tour guides each year to represent Hofstra to prospective ���Ĵ�ý and their families.  For more information, refer to the Admissions homepage /Admission/index.html or contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office, 516-463-6700.

Through part-time employment, various departments throughout the university offer ���Ĵ�ý the opportunity to enrich and enhance their academic experiences by applying learned skills and theories in a practical setting, while earning income to assist with college expenses. To be eligible for student employment, ���Ĵ�ý must be matriculated, in good standing and enrolled for at least half-time semester hours at ���Ĵ�ý (undergraduate ���Ĵ�ý-6 credits; graduate ���Ĵ�ý: 4.5 credits). International ���Ĵ�ý holding appropriate US Department of State student visas must be enrolled as full-time ���Ĵ�ý in a full course of study. The largest number of jobs are available in September, but that is also when the largest number of ���Ĵ�ý are seeking employment. Jobs do become available throughout the year, and any student who is not immediately successful with a student employment job search should continue to look. It is common at mid-semester to have open jobs. Student employment opportunities are also available during the summer and January session. All jobs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and depend on department need. Student Employees can apply directly to the departments that are seeking student workers.
