I Got This

Miles Dievert ’24

I chose Hofstra for two reasons. First, it was close enough to my hometown in Connecticut but far enough away that I still had my independence. Second, it has the most intriguing Speech-Language Pathology program. It’s a dual-degree program where I can begin graduate courses in my final year of undergrad and earn my graduate degree in one and a half years rather than two.

At Hofstra, my mentors supported me in my academic path and challenged me to be better than I thought I could be. I met my girlfriend and my best friends for life. I have grown both academically and personally, and I could not imagine my life without this school.

Hofstra transformed my life. I am not the same person I was four years ago. I walked in as a nervous freshman and four years later I can say I am much more confident.

Take advantage of everything the school has to offer. Hofstra set me up for a lifetime of success.

MORE ABOUT MILES

Miles Dievert came to Hofstra with a solid academic and career plan. He knew what he wanted for his future. What he did not expect was the personal opportunities Hofstra afforded him.

“I knew I wanted to be a part of the Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences department at Hofstra. I was a good fit for the program, and it was exactly what I wanted for my future, said Miles.

But it was the campus and the Hofstra community that really helped him grow both academically and personally.

“I fell in love with Hofstra. I remember standing in front of Adams Playhouse and looking over the quad and thinking, ‘This is it.’

Miles credits his two mentors, Dr. Scott R. Schroeder and Professor Keryn L. Hing-Avery, for his academic success. They guided him through the dual-degree process, supported him, and challenged him in his research and studies.

“Their guidance has prepared me to be a stronger, critical thinker and future clinician.

As part of the dual-degree program, Miles will continue his graduate studies in Speech-Language Pathology at Hofstra. In addition to taking his graduate courses, he will begin clinical work, complete two clinical externships, and apply for a clinical fellowship prior to obtaining his master’s degree.

“I feel prepared to start working with clients as a graduate clinician because of my training in the undergraduate program. I was able to experience therapy for a variety of disorders outside the classroom and connect my knowledge from the classroom to the field.

Miles is beginning his graduate studies unlike the way he began his undergraduate program at Hofstra.

“I came to this University as a first-year student, nervous about starting over, making new friends, and living on my own. Now I can say I couldn’t imagine my life without Hofstra and all it has given me – confidence, opportunity, and lifelong friendships.

» Miles’ story isn’t unique. In fact, among ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™s 2021-2022 undergraduate recipients, 95% of alumni from the School of Health Sciences who responded to our graduation survey or other reliable sources (75% knowledge rate) reported that they were employed or had started or were planning to start graduate school within one year of graduation.
