When Anurag started his undergraduate career at Hofstra, he was looking for more than just a strong academic program – he wanted a place where he could explore his passions, build lasting relationships, and prepare for a future in medicine. As a December 2024 graduate, he looks back with gratitude at the experience that shaped his path.

“Hofstra offered the perfect combination of rigorous academics and individualized support,” he said. “It was the kind of environment where I could really thrive.”

A member of the Rabinowitz Honors College, Anurag found a love for learning in small seminar-style courses that encouraged deep discussion and introspective thinking. “Those classes taught me to think beyond the textbook. They helped me develop critical thinking skills I’ll use for the rest of my life,” he said.

Outside the classroom, Anurag found guidance and inspiration from professors like Dr. Matthew Fisher, assistant professor of biology, and Dr. Yalan Xing, associate professor of chemistry, who became trusted mentors. “Dr. Fisher helped me navigate research with patience and insight, and Dr. Xing gave me the confidence to push through one of the toughest classes in my major. They both made me believe in myself,” he said.

Anurag’s drive and Hofstra’s support led him to a competitive research position at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he analyzed pediatric brain MRIs and trained machine learning models to help improve tumor diagnostics. “Working alongside neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists was an unforgettable experience,” he said. “It confirmed my passion for pediatric neuroscience and the path I want to take.”

Beyond academics, Anurag built a close-knit community of friends who shared the ups and downs of college life – from late-night study sessions to spontaneous snowball fights outside Suffolk Hall. “It’s the little moments I’ll miss the most,” he said. “The people who made even the busiest days fun.”

As he prepares for medical school, Anurag reflects on how Hofstra helped him grow into the person he is today. “This place gave me the foundation to follow my goals and the confidence to go after them,” he said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better college experience.”
