Mental Health Technician (Voucher Included)

Overview

Mental health technicians, also called psychiatric technicians, are entry-level professionals who support people with mental illness or developmental disabilities in inpatient and outpatient settings.

This online course is designed for 糖心传媒 with no previous experience. It combines medical terminology with mental health technician training covering professional responsibilities, patient rights, communication, cultural competency, common psychosocial needs, therapeutic relationships, pharmacology, documentation, examinations, and intervention skills. Scenario-based assignments provide opportunities for instructor feedback.

After completing the program, you will be prepared for the Mental Health Technician Certification (MHTC) exam offered by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA). Enrollment includes an exam voucher. Students may also apply to attend a Red Cross workshop for CPR/BLS certification during the course.

Requirements and Prerequisites

You must be at least 18 years old to enroll. The course can be completed on a PC, Mac, or Chromebook using a current browser, Microsoft Word Online, Adobe Acrobat Reader, email, and internet access. A video-capable device is required to record and upload MP4 competency assignments for instructor review.

Instructional materials are included. The medical terminology textbook is provided digitally, and the Mental Health Technician course textbook is shipped after enrollment.

To qualify for the AMCA certification exam, candidates must complete a related training program through an AMCA-approved test site, provide proof of course completion, and pass the exam within one year of finishing training. This course does not meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in Arkansas, California, Colorado, or Kansas. Students should confirm requirements with the appropriate authority where they intend to work.

Heather Morton, PhD

Dr. Morton is an educator and coach with a doctorate and master's degree in psychology and a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences. She has developed and taught healthcare and psychology programs using practical learning strategies and constructive feedback.

Gail Hubbard, MSN, RN, RMA

Gail Hubbard has more than 30 years of healthcare experience spanning medical records, medical assisting, EKG, billing and coding, nursing, psychiatric mental health, infection control, staff development, and healthcare education. She earned her master's degree in Nursing Leadership and Management from Western Governors University.

The medical terminology portion is taught by experienced medical terminology instructors.
